First Prize at Y Galeri Open Art Caerphilly 2014

The New Year has begun well with 'Salvation' winning 1st Prize at the Y Galeri Open Art Show at Caerphilly.

'Salvation' is a Salvation Army member from 1890.

Eliza is having a crisis of faith, whether this is to do with her own personal misdemeanours or witnessing the crushing poverty around her and the indifference of the church authorities towards it is up to speculation.

The painting measures 14.8cm by 21cm (A5) and is the first one I have painted onto smooth paper, enabling much finer detail, such as the 'Jesus Only' badge.

The painting was awarded First Prize and £500 by the judges at the prize giving on the 31st January which was a great honour for me and Eliza.

The exhibition runs until February 8th 2014 at Y Galeri, St Fagans Street, Caerphilly, Open Tuesday to Saturday 10-5pm.
